He's younger than Allen too, so it makes sense to go in a different direction, especially as, in the strange continuity of the movie, Chris Evans is playing a Hollywood actor playing the role of Pixar's Buzz Lightyear. In many respects, the lack of Tim Allen is the least of the movie's problems, especially as the casting of Chris Evans as the "real" Buzz Lightyear makes a good deal of sense, given the character's similarities with overgrown boy scout Captain America, also played by Chis Evans. Lightyear doesn't have quite the same universally robust thematic core - instead, it feels more like a Disney+ exclusive than a proper cinematic movie in the Toy Story series.
